After my Konica Hexar, I picked up a Mamiya 6 and used it for about 10 years. I also carried a Gitzo table top tripod: great travel companions. I miss this "Texas Leica"!

The only problem I have with the Rolleiflex T is that they seem to be overpriced. A 3.5 automat with Tessar or Xenar is a better made camera and currently sells for less. Which is not to say that they aren't better cameras than most other TLRs.

Great info video!!! I have a question...I am considering an upgrading from Leica SL to Leica SL2 or SL2s for wedding photography...Colors of SL are excellent. Do you suggest to change? If yes which models SL2S ol SL2. Thanks in advance Sebastiano from Italy

I don't think I really can tell, but I was guessing the X is the Voigtlander one since the first couple photos. For many Voigtlander lens I have been watching and some using, I think their background blur is kind of busier. In terms of the top quality ones, I will even go further to claim that's the main difference between the 35mm APOs of Voigtlander and Leica. But yeah otherwise Voigtlander is just amazing for what it costs, and it's my absolutely favorite brand out of all.

This brings back some memories. I took photography in high school in the 80s and our teacher used a film loader to make 24 exposure b&w rolls for students for $1 a roll. We had to save the canisters for reuse.

Matt, you built a community...not a following. Many comments on you videos have their own sub conversations between community members. You provide perspectives from another point of view for many of us when we are struggling with creative processing, burnout, direction, or even our own personal issues entrenched in our photography and art. We thank you for your service, smiles, struggles, and sense of friendship to not only your art, but to your family and this community. We truly feel like a "Friend of yours"...lol. see what i did there. Congrats buddy. need more like you in the space.

I'm a little lost after Matt applies NLP. I can see I have a stack of the original negative and the copy, but when I expand the stack I don't see the copy. At first I thought it was because I didn't have virtual copies viewable but that doesn't seem to make a difference. If anyone has time to tell me what simple button I'm forgetting I'd be eternally grateful!

Don’t count out how long you can do this. It’s an unknown because UA-cam doesn’t have much of a history, but my feeling is that having a channel and continuing to do good work will age with the audience. The very people who started watching you 10 years ago are also 10 years older now, they’ve changed too. And here they are, continuing to watch your excellent videos.

I show maybe 10% of what Ive shot on social media. Sometimes I just show the bad work because I want to keep the good stuff to myself lol. Maybe im a part of that "noise" I dont know but Ive never had "influencer" goals with film photography. Psychologically, I think.. In all honestly......Its been about recreating the 1980s for me. I admit it. Its about B movies and just that aesthetic style overall. Im probably failing at it but thats ok. At least I am having fun and getting my visual form of CBT out of the way.

Probably the exposure of the meter is shifted because of the wrong voltage of your battery. The camera expects 1.35V and not 1.5V PS: Probably that was already commented a lot, but I couldn't find any.

So what you've got going on is 50x1.5=75mm, showing borders on your shot. I'm mapping out the math here to accommodate the full frame camera I have and what I need to use to get the most information when time rolls around to camera scan not just 35, but 120 and 4x5 (and hopefully 126 & 110 someday 😬). so the macro on the 35-80mm PK-fit I have would suffice despite it being manual (meaning no automatic lens calibration), and then zoom out with every format. Either that or the 50mm with a macro tube. Or maybe yet, if I ever get my hands on one, an 85mm

As someone who started out watching you pretty early on... drawn in by some of those early camera reviews... my honest take: I personally loved photography. I was born and raised still in a time where I learned FILM photography, not because it was hip, but because it was at the end of its (previous) life and my college had not really updated to "digital" yet. I found you and saw that you were a dude in the same place in life... my first child was born in 2013. Even though I have never met you, you were someone with a shared interest that was going through a similar place in life. So, of course I have "tuned in" for the reviews... but honestly, I have stuck around for the stories of your life... because I see my own "stories" there too. Stories of "life" is what lures me in... and I imagine it is for others too. It is hard to ask someone to be honest about their life... because that takes being vulnerable... but you have been. I can't speak to everyone, but long past your thoughts on the Pentax 67 (or otherwise,) I check back in to see "how the kids are doing... how are things going in your life." I'm a dude who had a lot of friends when I was younger (skate/punk rock) and now, not so much... just time to be a parent. So, maybe that speaks more about me... but, I like following you on this journey... because I am on my journey too. So, I just say THANK YOU to you for providing this outlet and for sharing about life... documenting... and cameras. Best to you and your family (and looking forward to your book arriving soon!)

"Took the remaining money and bought new countertops for our kitchen, a new sink and a new dishwasher" is the most relatable sentence I have ever heard in a lens review. This also means that for you the Voigtlander is literally everything and the kitchen sink...

I'm comfused by the versions of the Nokton 50mm f1.5. I recently bought a mint condition Nokton 50mm f1.5 Aspherical in LTM M39 mount. Its physically a different looking lens to this version. But straight off i took it out (adapted to digital) and found it to be softand low contrast Up to f5.6. I couldn't believe how poor the results were so did some more testing and put it up against a number of ohter brand 50mm lenses i have (Fuji and 40yr old Pentax 50mm f1.4) and they out resolve the Nokton 50mm f1.5 Asp to a large margin. Possibly the weakest lens optically ive even used. I sent it back but just wonder what was wrong with it. It was an ebay purchase from Japan and in absolutely beautiful condition so dont think it was an issue with the lens elements but also its a version of the Nokton 50mm f1.5 that seems hard to find when i google. It was LTM and i was intending to use it on my Leica IIIf but obscured the viewfinder too much anyway

I don't really like "photography youtube" in 2024 - it's a whole world and I'm not interested in it. But - BUT - back in 2014ish, UA-cam was so helpful for finding info on random film cameras - troubleshooting problems, how to sync a flash etc. Yours stood out (maybe because I'd recently got a Hasselblad and needed reassurance on how I was loading it etc), and you were a skater and it was exactly the info I was after. Anyway thanks for that, congrats on 10 years!

I know I’m late, but I just wanted to make a comment. Film is also light-safe* after stop bath, or a water wash after development. Any silver that is exposed after the stop step cannot develop and will be washed away in the fix. This is why re-fixing isn’t a super big deal. Just thought I would point that out. *Jf you leave it out too long, the film will begin to print out, but so will a wet plate.
